PRESS RELEASE  April 28, 2008

The Concerned Citizens for the Preservation of Watertown is pleased to host an informational meeting concerning Tamarack Energy’s power generating proposal on Thursday, May 8 in the meeting room at the Thomaston Saving Bank, 565 Main St, Watertown at 7:30 pm.

The purpose of this meeting is to provide a question and answer opportunity for any one who is not acquainted with the biomass clean energy plant proposed in our industrial zone near the intersection of Echo Lake Rd and Route 8.  The proposed project will convert clean waste wood into 30 megawatts of renewable power.  Particular attention will be paid to the public need, benefits of the project, site selection process, and environmental effects.  Speakers will be Mark Mirabito, project manager for Tamarack Energy, and members of his staff.

As in the past, CCPW supports responsible economic growth for our community.  After much research, CCPW supports this use as one that provides an increase to our tax base while minimally impacting our town’s infrastructure and services.  The proposed energy plant in addition to providing an increase to our tax base will also be compatible with existing industrial neighbors.

If you have not had the time to attend any of the previously held meetings, join us at 7:30 pm on Thursday, May 8 at the Thomaston Savings Bank, 565 Main St, Watertown.

Bring your friends, neighbors, relatives to this meeting and get the facts on this important project.

The Report from the Regional Planning Commission

The Council of Governments of the Central Naugatuck Valley (COGCNV), under the State of Connecticut Office of Policy and Management, has issued a report about the zoning change sought by Fusco and Lukasavage, landowners. Although that application was withdrawn, the report is well worth reading.  Not surprisingly, the staff stated that "the proposed 'planned commercial' district runs contrary to good planning practice"...

Please read the entire report below - it validates many of CCPW's arguments against this zone change, and expresses other concerns that we've barely scratched the surface on.
